During the winter testing before the 2019 season, Ferrari looked fast and many thought it would be the season that they could end Mercedes dominance. However, after a slow start to the season, Ferrari were miles off the pace and it was a disappointing season for the Italian team.

Sebastian Vettel has been criticized for failing to perform and has admitted that everyone at Ferrari is frustrated with how the year played out.

"It was clearly not the season that everyone had hoped for," said Vettel to Blick“In the first half of the season we got a lot of it and in the second part we mainly learned. In addition, I dropped a few inches here and there, before the results on my side became more constant. In the end, it resulted in a season that nobody was happy with."

Vettel will drive for the Italian team in 2020 but his future beyond that is uncertain. He will hope for more success and add to his four world championships.

“The past five years have been a great experience with a great team and I am very grateful for it. I just hope it doesn't take another five years before I get big successes. As long as I am able to come along, I don't think age matters much. Look at Lewis: he is three years older than me. In addition, it can also quickly change to Formula 1. If you have three good races in a row, the opinions change again.

“Am I thinking about retiring? Not specifically. But after more than twelve years in Formula 1, you will no doubt be busy with what you will do next. It is not wise to live without having a plan. But no one knows whether that chosen plan will actually come true.”

It seems that Vettel's future will depend on whether 2020 is successful. Many will hope to see him back on the top of the podium, challenging Lewis Hamilton at the top.
