Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner believes Lewis Hamilton is looking forward to challenging himself against the new generation that is arriving in Formula 1. Horner's driver Max Verstappen and rival Charles Leclerc are leading the next generation brigade, but the likes of Lando Norris, George Russell and Alex Albon aren't far behind.

Hamilton, who turned 35 at the start of January, has stated how he feels fresh ahead of his pursuit for a seventh world championship crown. The latest reports suggest that the British driver is close to signing a two-year deal to remain inside the Mercedes car.

Young v Old

As his career starts to come to a close, Horner expects Hamilton to be looking forward to a battle against the stars of the future.

"Every now and again, you get a wave coming along and I think we've got that at the moment. So I think especially exciting is the Max/Leclerc dynamic, how that's going to play out over future years, how Lewis can still go toe to toe with those guys," Horner told motorsport.com.

"Because there's life in him yet as well and I think he's keen to gauge himself against the young wave that’s coming through. I think for Formula 1 it's fantastic to have the dynamics of the young guys, the challengers, coming through and some of the older guys that are the old dogs that know all the tricks."
