Toto Wolff remains hopeful of keeping Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes but admits he's not entirely in control of the deal. The Austrian team boss explains how important the six-time world champion is within the team.

The youngsters Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen have both signed mega contract extension which will see them remain at their teams through the 2021 rules and regulation overhaul. Now, all the contract speculation and attention turns towards the older generation: Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel

There's always that question mark over Hamilton asking if he'll ever move to Ferrari? Hamilton's contract expires at the end of the 2020 F1 season, and therefore Wolff gets asked about the current status of a contract renewal.

“I think any sports team is not static. That means there is always going to be some change, and change is something that can also provide opportunity. So while I still very much hope that our relationship continues, I am not totally in control of that. There is no doubt that Lewis is a very strong pillar within the team," Wolff tells reporters and is quoted by GrandPrix247.

“I think that the values we have are that morality and integrity is absolutely number one. And understanding Lewis’ position and objectives will be key for any decision that we take."
