Vasseur: ''With a good day we can achieve great results''

With a budget cap and new aerodynamic rules, smaller teams should be able to achieve great results in the future. Frederic Vasseur has hope, but also states that there is still a lot to be done for his Alfa Romeo.

''With a field that's closer together, if everything goes well in a weekend, you could also achieve a good result as a small team. However, we have to work on the complete picture of the sport and make sure we don't all spend more huge amounts of money. The decision in that respect is good for Formula 1'', says Vasseur in conversation with Auto, Motor und Sport.

However, with only the finances, a team like Alfa will not get there yet. The podiums and victories are mainly achieved by the top three teams and that is not only because of their money. They are also behind the scenes through the entire organisation, which Alfa Romeo, with 500 men in the factory, cannot match.

Top teams have an advantage

''It's not just about money, but teams won't be able to employ between 1,000 and 1,200 people. However, this does not detract from the fact that in terms of organisation, they have a great advantage over the small teams and are also much further ahead in terms of technology and knowledge in every area. It will therefore take some time before the field really gets closer together''.

In 2020, Vasseur will still have to make do with the same car and without a budget cap, and the contempt is not enormous. ''We want to do better than in 2019. We don't know yet how many races we have and we have to take advantage of every opportunity that comes our way'', concludes the team boss of the Italian race stable.
