Theoretically, the United States Grand Prix in Austin is still on the calendar. There is talk about a place after the Grand Prix of Canada. However, nothing is certain and nothing has been decided yet, says the organizer of the American event Bobby Epstein.

The FIA is still busy setting up the new F1 season. It is still unclear whether the American GP can take place on October 25th. A few things complicate the situation. An overseas race causes a major problem in connection with corona measures. All the more so because the US is not yet over the peak in infections.

There are also problems for the financing of the event. The GP in Austin is financed by the state of Texas and that money is released from the tax dollars that are raised when the tickets are sold to the fans.

Organizer Austin has no idea

"I don't know if we can say the race will go on or not," Epstein says to Autosport. "There's going to be a decision, but it hasn't been made yet. Formula 1 will want it anyway so we don't worry about that".

Epstein says it's easy for COTA to organize an event without an audience. It would only take them three weeks. However, the financial picture is an important consideration: "We are just like all other promoters. We have to do what works best for us."

"As promoters, we'll have to make sacrifices financially. I don't see a problem with that, because I think everyone's willing to do that."
