After confirming its reunion with the iconic Gulf Oil company, McLaren Racing has today announced that IQONIQ has become Official Fan Engagement Partner of the McLaren F1 team.

The new sports fan engagement platform will be introduced at this weekend’s British Grand Prix and it aims to bring the action closer to McLaren’s fans.

IQONIQ will launch a new application later this year that will offer McLaren fans the opportunity to access exclusive content and experiences at the McLaren Technology Centre and Formula 1 races, bringing fans closer to the team on and off track throughout the season.

Mark Waller, Managing Director of Sales and Marketing, McLaren Racing said: “We are pleased to announce this exciting new partnership with IQONIQ. Like McLaren, it is a brand that is passionate about engaging a global fan base.

„This partnership with IQONIQ will enable us to continue to connect with our fans in unique and innovative ways, bringing them closer to the team and action.”

The announcement comes after the Woking-based outfit confirmed that it signed a new multi-year strategic partnership deal with Gulf Oil. From 2021, Gulf will become the preferred lubricant supplier to McLaren Automotive, with all cars to be filled with Gulf Oil and fuel optimised for high performance engines.

The partnership between McLaren Racing and Gulf Oil will not be a new affair as the two companies enjoyed a successful endeavour previously.

Their first partnership started in 1968 and continued until the end of the 1973 season, with Gulf and McLaren enjoying success in both Formula 1 and the Can-Am series. In this period, the two parties won over 40 races together. The collaboration was then renewed at the Le Mans 24 Hours in the 1990s, with the famous McLaren F1 GTR running in Gulf colours throughout the decade.

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said: “We’re delighted to welcome Gulf back to McLaren and reunite two iconic brands back together in a new and exciting partnership. Gulf is part of McLaren’s history and are well-known for their innovation and technical excellence in the industry, with which aligns with McLaren perfectly. We are looking forward to starting our partnership together this season.”

Mike Jones, CEO, Gulf Oil added: “This is a very exciting partnership that brings the Gulf brand back into elite motor racing. The history books are full of remarkable tales that tell of what Gulf and McLaren have achieved in the past. Now we are together once more to write the next chapter of this unique partnership."
