Daniel Ricciardo could be punished after a mistake by Renault during the Pirelli tyre test during FP2. His mechanics accidentally mixed the two sets of tyres, sending the Australian out on a mix between set one and set two.

Each team tested a prototype for the 2021 tyres in the first 30 minutes of the second free practice at Portimao. Each driver was given two sets by the Italian tyre manufacturer.

Renault fault

Renault, however, went wrong with the test rubber. The French changed the left front tyre of set one with the left front tyre of set number two. This is forbidden by FIA rules and Renault now has to report to the stewards at Portimao.

Article 24.2 of the FIA states that a driver must fit a complete set of tyres under the car, as supplied by the FIA. This was not the case with Ricciardo, but whether he will take a penalty is unknown.

Ricciardo and Renault will not be penalised. The FIA decided to give the team a warning after the error during the second free practice session.
