Norris says Stroll “doesn’t seem to learn” after F1 Portuguese GP clash

Lando Norris was left frustrated by his collision with Lance Stroll during the Portuguese Grand Prix, saying the Racing Point Formula 1 driver “doesn’t seem to learn with anything he does”.

Norris and Stroll came to blows at Turn 1 on Lap 18 as the Racing Point driver attempted an ambitious overtake around the outside of Norris’ McLaren as they battled for position.

But the pair made contact on the exit of the corner, leaving Norris with damage that forced him to make an unscheduled pit stop, while Stroll was handed a five-second time penalty for causing the incident.

"I don't know what he was doing really," said Norris, who ultimately finished 13th after running as high as third early on.

"I don't know where he was really. He went to the left, which I was quite surprised by when he easily could have gone to the inside. I was easily halfway alongside, and he just turns in.

"He obviously didn't learn from Friday, but he doesn't seem to learn with anything he does. It happens a lot, so I just need to make sure I stay away.”

After picking up a second five-second time penalty for multiple track limits infringements, Stroll eventually retired with 15 laps to go having falling to the very back of the field.

Explaining his side of the story, the Canadian said: “He was kind of in the middle of the track, I wasn’t sure if he was going to go to the inside or stay on the line. It was very awkward.

“I had to make a split second decision, and I was on the outside over the kerb, and from there, I kinda turned into the corner, it wasn’t enough room for both of us. So that was that.

“It is a shame our race ended like that, we were really in a good position to score some good points. A tough result to swallow.”
