The current V6-turbo hybrid era in Formula 1 has been highly polarising. Mercedes have had a stranglehold on the sport since 2014 and several of the purists feel that the sport has lost its sheen despite the cars being faster than they have ever been. Ferrari's vice-president Piero Ferrari is the latest to voice his concerns regarding the future of the sport, citing the growing costs involved in developing F1 technology only to closely guard any of the innovations being made. "We spend terrifying amounts and then keep everything under wraps. Can you explain to me how that makes sense?" Ferrari told Motorsport.it. "Formula 1 must be a sport that offers a show that amuses fans: we have very fast single-seaters with very advanced technology that nobody knows about." Ferrari went on the elaborate how the current coronavirus pandemic has had an adverse effect on the sport, stating that the thrill of F1 can't be experienced fully on television. "We are racing the fastest single-seaters in history, but the images that come to us from the TV fail to give those sensations that you experience when you are on the circuit and the perceived is the real one," Ferrari explained. "What reaches the people, the fans, is something different. These are F1 cars that go over 330 km/h, but looking at them on video you don't have the feeling of a different speed than in a Formula 2 race which contributes little to the show."
