Toto Wolff has publically stated that Valtteri Bottas has Mercedes' complete support heading into the 2021 F1 season. While Bottas has shown flashes of brilliance, he has failed to consistently mount a title charge over the course of a season. This has led to some speculating that 2021 might be the last season we see the Finn in a Mercedes. Wolff however says the team fully supports its driver. "Valtteri is always going to have unconditional support from the team," Wolff said to RacingNews365.com among others. "I think we have seen fantastic performances over the last few years, just not stability throughout the season. He knows that it is within his own hands to influence the future." Wolff though failed to offer any firm insight on the future of Mercedes junior George Russell who in 2020 came agonisingly close to winning his first race at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix. "As for George, we also know what we have in George and the future is bright for George. In any case, it depends on how the private situation within Mercedespans out." Mercedes are in a situation where all three of their drivers are out of a contract in 2022. With Hamilton only signing a one-year extension and Bottas and Russell entering the final years of their contract with Mercedes and Williams respectively, the team's future looks far from certain. That being said, the team have won the last seven consecutive driver and team titles, which means they will have no trouble in handpicking the best possible lineup should the need arise.
