Perez reveals the issue with limited F1 testing time in Bahrain

The Mexican won't have much time to adapt to his new team ahead of the 2021 season, as there are just three days of testing before we get underway for the first race. Perez is set to be in the RB16B for roughly a day and a half.

Sergio Perez has been speaking about how the little amount of testing teams have this season could make things trickier for drivers like him, who have changed teams over the winter. The Mexican driver has moved from Racing Point to Red Bull for 2021, where he will partner Max Verstappen. However, with just 10 hours of test running before the first race gets underway in Bahrain, he will have to adapt quickly. "The more you can drive, the better. Especially with the small amount of test days," Perez told Dutch outlet Ziggo. "A day and a half is very little. It's crucial for me to learn as quickly as possible to get the last three tenths out of the lap, you need some experience with the car for that." Under normal conditions, teams would have much longer to fine-tune everything in testing and to get up to speed ahead of the new season. However, even with the challenging timetable, the 31-year-old says he has been very warmly welcomed by his new team. "The team is very nice to me. The engineers and technicians are very nice to me and Max too. Helmut, Christian, everyone welcomed me with open arms, which is very pleasant," Perez explained. "It's nice that I get confidence [from the team]."
