Sergio Perez has started the season well with his new team. The Mexican drove 166 laps and eventually clocked the eighth fastest time in testing. For Perez it is now important to get confidence in the car.

Interesting preseason

It may take Perez some time getting used to the car because for the first time in seven years he has switched to another team. On top of that, there was the shortened test week of just three days. "It's quite interesting in that respect, because we don't have much time - it's definitely the shortest pre-season I've done in my career," Perez explained at Crash.net.

Still a lot to learn

"I still have a lot to learn in the car to get the most out of it, but the best thing I can do is just be patient and take the first races as they come," Perez revealed. "With the races I will get better at it. For now I just have to be patient, and together with my engineers we just have to keep working really hard."

How long Perez will then need to really gain confidence in his new car, he finds hard to say: "Once we go to many different circuits, with different conditions, you understand the car and the team a lot better. I think five races, good races, should be enough."
