For next season there is no Grand Prix planned in Germany. In recent years this was often the case but last year there was an unexpected race at the Nurburgring, but there is hope on the horizon for the German fans. And there are more changes to come.

Shifts on the calendar

With 23 races on the schedule, 2021 seems to be a 'normal' season for Formula 1, but still some races had to be rescheduled due to corona. Australia was moved to November and China was cancelled. The races in Monaco and Baku also had question marks for a long time, but it seems that they can go ahead.

"The pandemic is a challenge for everyone," Formula One boss Stefano Domenicali told Car Bild. "But Formula 1 managed to hold a world championship last year under basically impossible circumstances. So we have laid the foundations for this year, which with 23 races will be the longest season ever. It won't be easy, but all the organisers have indicated to us that they want to host the Grand Prix."

Return of German Grand Prix

In recent years, German fans have often had to do without a Grand Prix, such as in 2015 and 2017. The race at the Nurburgring was officially called the Eifel Grand Prix. According to Domenicali, this could change in the coming years. "Germany is an important market for us. I can reveal that I recently held talks with those in charge at the Nurburgring and Hockenheim to explore the possibilities of a comeback," the Italian told. "And I hope that in the coming months we will find a solution."

More adjustments to the calendar

A return to Germany is not the only adjustment Domenicali is working on. "I want a third of the races in Europe, two races in the United States and we are also in talks with African countries." There is said to be interest from both North and South African countries. For the second Grand Prix in America, a race in Miami is the favourite.
