Briatore: Difficult for Ferrari to make F1 podiums in 2021

Ferrari started their 2021 F1 season with both cars finishing in the points. While Flavio Briatore believes the team are in a good position thanks to the exciting duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, the Italian believes podium finishes won't be easy to come by.

Although Ferrari look like they have improved following a disastrous 2020 campaign, former F1 team principal Flavio Briatore believes podium finishes won't be easy for the team. Both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished in the points at the Bahrain Grand Prix, with the duo finishing sixth and eighth respectively. While it's no doubt a positive start to the season given Ferrari only finished with both drivers in the points five times last season, Briatore doesn't believe the team will be able to challenge the likes of Red Bull and Mercedes. "Ferrari will challenge, but it will be difficult for them to make the podium if all the cars finish," Briatore told adnkronos.com. "They will fight to be the third best team on the grid. "There will be Mercedes, Red Bull and then Ferrari, who have taken steps forward compared to last year. "They have the most room for improvement. They have two great drivers in Sainz and Leclerc, who both did a good job. However the car remains their limitation." Former Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel had a difficult weekend in Bahrain with new team Aston Martin, with Briatore pointing out teammate Lance Stroll looked more competitive. "He struggled," Briatore stated when asked about Vettel. "He even hit a car, while Stroll looked more competitive. "They [Aston Martin] can improve like Ferrari, but the title fight will be between Mercedes and Red Bull."
