The qualifying for the race in Rome is over. Nyck de Vries and Robin Frijns finished in the top 10. Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne took pole position and will therefore start from the front this afternoon.

The whole morning was chaotic. The first free practice ended with a heavy crash. Oliver Turvey crashed into the back of Jean Eric Vergne and Jake Dennis. The second practice session was stopped soon after the start due to repair works.

Many drivers were unable to complete many laps. All the more reason for Vergne to recover in qualifying and take P5. Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne took pole position for the Mercedes team on the street circuit of Rome.

After the race, Vandoorne said he was happy to start at the front. "Super good feeling to be on pole position again. The car was good and competitive. Let's see what the race brings."

De Vries will start from position 8. He did not manage to fight for pole position. Robin Frijns will start in front of De Vries. He just didn't manage to qualify for the super pole. He did manage to hold off De Vries by 0.081 seconds.
