It is Thursday, and so the Grand Prix weekend in Imola is kicked off with the press conferences. This time it looks different than usual. Instead of teammates together, two drivers from different teams are seated next to each other. Sergio Perez is the first, together with Carlos Sainz.

Perez says he is looking forward to the race weekend, which he hopes will get him off to a better start than in Bahrain. He also says he doesn't feel any more pressure at Red Bull Racing than at Racing Point. He admits he made some mistakes in qualifying in Bahrain, and that the team later found out there was a small problem with the car as well.

The tyre choice was therefore not the only reason Perez missed out on Q3. "The choice of medium tyres instead of softs was not the reason for the Q2 exit," explained Perez during Thursday's press conference, quoted by Formule1.nl. "I think you just have to follow the best possible strategy, and we did."

This weekend Perez gets at least a second chance. In Bahrain he showed that he can drive a strong race, so who knows what he can show when he can start from the front.
