Mazepin: The Haas isn't tricky in general

Haas' Nikita Mazepin says his VF-21 isn't that tricky to drive overall, but that he faces a steep learning curve to get a handle on it.

Haas' new signing Nikita Mazepin believes his VF-21 isn't trickier than other cars to drive, but that his own lack of experience in certain situations is catching him out. The Russian driver brought out the red flags at the end of the first practice session at Imola, crashing his Haas after running wide into the gravel out of the final corner. This followed on from an early spin in the session at the same spot, from which he recovered. Having crashed out of his first race last time out in Bahrain, managing just two corners before losing control, Mazepin believes he still has a lot to learn. "I wouldn't say the car is very tricky to drive in general," Mazepin told media, including RacingNews365.com. "I had a very good time of it in testing, . But I will just say that pushing 101% when the wing is high and the wind is changing around all the time. "That's something that I definitely didn't expect and I was not ready for that in any way. I had a really tough learning curve in that respect, so it shouldn't happen again." "Racing drivers have difficult days, It's good to put it behind you because you can only take so much knowledge and learning from a bad experience which normally is very informative for me personally. "Dwelling on the past is not good to improve. So learning and analysing was important but that was last time. Now I look ahead to this race weekend and transferring this knowledge that was taken from my first race."
