Sainz: Drivers with new teams are struggling

The Spaniard feels that drivers who changed teams for the 2021 season have particularly struggled at the Emilia Romagna GP due to the difficulty of the track.

Carlos Sainz feels the drivers who are racing with new teams this year are particularly struggling to get to grips with the Imola circuit. Only Mercedes, Alfa Romeo and Williams retained their 2020 driver line-ups for this year after a significant number of the grid changed teams. AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda crashed out in qualifying whilst Sainz and Alonso failed to make the final part of qualifying, unlike their teammates. "Probably Imola is the most difficult circuit for a new driver because there are a lot kerbs, you need experience and know what is underneath you," Sainz told RacingNews365.com and select media. "Maybe us, the new drivers, we are abusing a bit this circuit, the lack of experience we have. You saw [Daniel] Ricciardo, myself, Sebastian [Vettel], Fernando [Alonso], we were all a bit behind our teammates,. "Probably we didn’t know where exactly the limit is, and how to put the lap together but it will be a matter of time. I am happy with the way I am adapting "I feel like I am able to extract the potential of the car at its limit, but it’s just a matter of putting the lap together. This is what I am missing at the moment."
