Norris reveals whether third in the championship has exceeded his expectations

Lando Norris has had a strong start to the 2021 F1 season, leaving him in third place in the drivers' standings. The Briton has explained whether his results have met or exceeded what he expected.

Lando Norris has admitted that he had no idea how McLaren would perform in the opening races, meaning that he wasn't really expecting his third place in the drivers' championship standings. The Briton finished the Bahrain Grand Prix in fourth before securing the second podium finish of his career at Imola with a third place. But when asked if his impressive performance so far has exceeded his expectations for this year, Norris says he didn't set himself any projections for 2021. "I wouldn't say I really had that many expectations," Norris told RacingNews365.com and other select media. "I didn't set any in a way so I didn't exceed or not meet them. "It's not been like that so much. I don't know why, it's just the way I've treated it. I've just taken a more one race at a time to see how we go, so I guess I have done [exceeded my expectations], not so much myself but us as a team. "I guess I didn't expect a P4 or a P3 in the first couple of races, but I didn't know what we were going to do. It's been nice, it's been rewarding, and hopefully we can keep it up and get more races like that." Norris is hopeful that McLaren can continue to perform well in coming races, though remains wary of the competition. "I think we can have more races like we've had," the Briton explained. "But there's definitely going to be some races where we are not going to be as strong as we have been in the last few weekends. "Ferrari were very strong at Imola and I think they showed that well in the race. AlphaTauri have been very strong, so it's not a guarantee that we're always going to be ahead of them."
