Aston Martin team boss Otmar Szafnauer has explained that Sebastian Vettel's continued struggles for pace and confidence with the AMR21 stem from a lack of rear stability, but that upgrades are on the way. Aston have been particularly vocal about the loss of rear downforce they suffered for 2021, in light of the changes to the aerodynamic regulations for this year. With Aston being one of two teams to utilise a low-rake aero philosophy, the loss of grip has hit the team hard, with Sebastian Vettel particularly struggling as he also adjusts to new machinery. "It's a little bit having an instability going into the corner at the rear," Szafnauer explained to media, including RacingNews365 . "But, I think the biggest difficulty is the variability in it. So, if it does the same thing, time and time again, then you can get to the limit and stay there and go a bit quicker. But ,when it's variable, you don't know what to expect. I think that's the issue. And I think the more you drive a car, the more you're feeling it or with it, then the more you can predict that kind of stuff. So, in time, it's just a matter of seat time." Asked about how the team can fix that problem for Vettel, Szafnauer confirmed some updates are on the way which should ease the issue. "So that cure is going to come from a lot of good work in the tunnel," Szafnauer said. "Just bringing new parts of the car in the next few races to get some of that load back that we lost at the rear. It's exactly where it's coming from. "There is a path, so you'll see some improvements coming in at the next race, for example. Then thereafter, there'll be some other there. There'll be some other upgrades as well. So won't be the last one."
