Ricciardo shocked: I don't know what to say

The McLaren driver was stunned to be knocked out in Q1 at the Portuguese GP and was left lost for words after qualifying in Portimao.

Daniel Ricciardo was deeply frustrated with his qualifying performance at the Portuguese GP as he failed to reach Q2 in Portimao. It's the first time the Australian has been eliminated from the first part of qualifying since Japan 2019 and he was left surprised after a strong Friday in Portugal. "It's certainly a bit of a shock," Ricciardo told RacingNews365.com and other select members of the press. "I don't really know what to say at the moment, it was just one of those sessions that happened so quickly. "I just didn't get a lot together and it was just quite messy. Sixteenth is grim and certainly not a result I feel good about at all." Ricciardo felt traffic during his laps played a part in his Q1 departure but ultimately blamed himself for his poor result. "It's tricky and every driver is on a different strategy -whether you do a warm up lap and then push or to do push straight away so you're catching a lot of traffic on a fast lap," said Ricciardo. "I just couldn't put in put it together and I've got to do better tomorrow. I'll just try and put it behind me and it's a session which is one I don't really want to think about too much."
