F1 commentator believes Ricciardo clearly not comfortable with the car

Daniel Ricciardo rallied from qualifying 16th at the Portuguese Grand Prix to finish the race with points in ninth. However, F1 commentator Lawrence Barretto has said he thinks the Australian is still struggling to get to grips with the McLaren car.

Heading into the fourth race of the season this weekend at Barcelona, McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo is still struggling to get the balance of his new car after he joined from Renault at the end of last year. The Australian has finished behind his teammate in each race so far this year, and qualified far down the grid in 16th at the Portuguese Grand Prix before staging a strong recovery drive to finish ninth. Ricciardo has said he hasn't gotten the most out of his new machinery so far this year, and F1 commentator Lawrence Barretto thinks the driver is still not comfortable in the new seat, he told the F1 Nation podcast. "Getting back into the points was a success for him because he just clearly isn't comfortable with the car. You can see the anger in his face when he talks about it, like the hamsters are going on in his head thinking, you know, I can't understand why things are going wrong," Barretto said. "He's trying everything. He's trying to use all the experience he's got from the teams beforehand, to try and find a solution. And for whatever reason, things aren't working out." Barretto added that ever since McLaren released video of Ricciardo's seat fit when it looked like there were multiple issues with the car, the driver hasn't looked at home in the seat. "I wonder whether that's just a real small insight into the wider problem that Daniel is suffering from at the moment," Barretto added. "Because if he didn't feel comfortable, at home, in the cockpit, what other things is he not going to be talking about that are going to have a much bigger impact on his performance."
