Marko points to setup change for Perez struggles

Red Bull's Helmut Marko believes Sergio Perez struggled in qualifying as a result of last minute setup changes to switch to a different rear wing configuration.

Helmut Marko has pointed out that a last minute setup change for Sergio Perez may have contributed to his low-key performance. The Mexican will start the Spanish GP from eighth position, after making a critical error on his first run in Q3. Dipping a wheel into the gravel going into Turn 12, Perez spun off and was lucky to be able to continue after that. Perez had made a switch to a different rear wing configuration, to match that of Max Verstappen's, and Marko believes this may have take a little too long to adjust to. "We had already hoped that we would be able to include him strategically," Marko told Sky Sport Deutschland. "In the end, he went with the vote on what Max had. Perhaps the acclimatisation period was too short for him with this new set-up." “Because of the spin in the first attempt [in Q3] he was of course handicapped. Now let's see. The race is going to be long here. "Unfortunately, overtaking is traditionally very difficult. But he's a good tyre whisperer. Maybe we can bring that into play then."
