Lammers after Verstappen victory: "It's almost normal"

The victory in Monaco is already the 12th victory for Max Verstappen in Formula 1. For Jan Lammers it is almost getting normal, as he told NOS Studio Sport on Sunday evening.

Exciting title race

Verstappen currently leads the standings by four points, the first time a Dutchman has topped the standings in Formula 1. According to Lammers, this mainly means extra pressure for Lewis Hamilton. "You get a pressure shift," the former Formula One driver explains. "Either you are the overtaking party or you are in the lead. This will give very nice races, after Monaco you can paint a good picture of the balance of power between the teams."

That there was a podium with drivers from Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren is also a good sign, according to Lammers. He thinks we're going to see teams other than Mercedes and Red Bull on the podium a lot more often this season. "I think that's illustrative of the rest of the season, it's going to be very colourful."

Bad luck for Mercedes

For Mercedes, it was a disappointing weekend with Hamilton finishing seventh and Valtteri Bottas dropping out. "Bottas had a very good weekend, and then this happens," Lammers is referring to the Mercedes driver's failed pit stop. Problems with the wheel nut meant the race was over for the Finn. "Then it does feel like the ground is sinking under you."
