We are now six races into the season, but the calendar changes almost every week. Maybe even more than last year. Uncertainties with certain circuits, circuits that drop out and circuits that want to fill in the gaps. A challenge for Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1.

In conversation with BBC he says, despite the ambiguity surrounding circuits, he does have a certain number of races in mind. "I want to keep 23, because we promised that," said the Italian. "It's a matter of showing commitment to achieve what has been discussed. Having said that, I want to make sure that we run 23 races, provided that the situation we live in with Covid will not create impossible restrictions in which we cannot race. The right situation is complicated, but you can be sure that I will not give up until the last moment."

Soon more clarity about Australian GP

Despite this promise and the hope that it can be achieved, Domenicali says the challenge is just as great as last year. "It is not easy, but we have taken measures depending on how the situation evolves. It would be easy to say that we are ready to announce Singapore's replacement today, but what if Japan is not there? And Japan we will only know after the Olympics."

There is also uncertainty about the Grand Prix in Melbourne. "With regard to Australia, we will have some more news at the end of this month. So we are preparing different combinations, believing that it is not easy, but it is a nice challenge that we have." So having multiple options is the key to success this year.
