Mercedes have confirmed that Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas have swapped chassis ahead of the French GP to ensure that both chassis complete similar mileages. RacingNews365.com understands that the change had been made to even out chassis mileage between the two cars as Mercedes plan to reintroduce Bottas' chassis from Imola which was damage following his high-speed collision with George Russell. “It’s not a new chassis,” Bottas told RacingNews365.com and other select members of the press. “It’s different and it was always planned for me to change to a different chassis at this point.” Bottas is hopeful that he can bounce back this weekend in Paul Ricard after a troubled event in Baku where he was consistently off the pace and was fighting to try and score points, whilst Hamilton was at the sharp end of the field with Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen. “We saw that in Monaco, for me, I managed to find the set-up and the confidence and get the tyres to work and Lewis didn’t,” said Bottas. “It almost felt like vice-versa in Baku. There was quite a big difference towards the end of the weekend with the set-up. "Now I can say that probably the direction I took, we took as a team, wasn’t ideal. Some other small things combined. “I think our car is quite on a knife-edge on those kind of tracks. But I think at least the next few tracks it’s a bit more normal and hopefully we can get a reasonable set-up and and that it’s not that easy to to go into the wrong direction.”
