Juan Manuel Correa has been accepted into Sauber's Driver Development Program. The driver, who suffered serious injuries in the tragic Formula 2 race in Belgium, has recovered and will now be supported by Sauber in his Formula 3 campaign.

Correa was developing strongly as a driver in 2019. The Ecuadorian drove for the Sauber Junior Team by Charouz, and already had two podium finishes to his name. However, the driver was involved in Anthoine Hubert's crash in Belgium. Correa entered a long rehabilitation process and stepped back into a Formula car in 2021 for the first time since his crash. He will now be supported by Sauber in Formula 3.

Correa back at Sauber

''It’s very special to be back with the Sauber Academy: they’re the junior programme of the team I was with in 2019, when I had my first and only F1 test, and it’s a great feeling to be working with them again. I am very excited to show the Academy’s branding on my car and my helmet already from this weekend in France and I am looking forward to helping the team whenever needed, be it in the sim or elsewhere,'' Correa revealed in the press release.

''Juan Manuel always displayed skill and determination, but his remarkable comeback from injury is an inspiring story that shows all his strength and will power. We have nothing but sheer admiration for his tenacity and we are happy to help him, through the Sauber Academy programme, as he resumes his motorsport career,'' concluded Sauber Motorsport Sporting Director, Beat Zehnder.
