Fernando Alonso had already let it be known on Thursday that he is very satisfied with his return in Formula 1 so far, and on Friday in France he showed again that he can still drive to the highest level. He put his Alpine car in fourth place in the second free practice session.

Strong performance of Alonso

Alonso seemed to need some time to get used to his return to Formula 1, but he showed in Baku that he still has what it takes to race. With two laps to go he overtook several drivers to finish in sixth place.

In France, the Spaniard looks to continue the good work with a P4 finish behind Max Verstappen and the two Mercedes in FP2. "Yes, it was fast! The car felt good. We experimented with the setup in FP1 and FP2 and we don't have any concrete answers yet, but it seems to be working," he says according to Motorsport-Magazin.com.

Feeling good for the rest of 2021

According to Alonso, Alpine F1 Team can give even more in France than in the previous two races. "We don't have the answers yet, but things seem to be back to normal here. That's good for the rest of the year."
