With the change from Racing Point to Aston Martin not only the name of the team changed, but also the livery was thrown completely overboard. From the bright pink the team changed to Aston Martin's traditional British green. Sponsor BWT would have preferred it otherwise.

The car doesn't stand out on TV

In conversation with Speedweek.com BWT CEO Andreas Weissenbacher said he was disappointed with the change of colours. The company is no longer a title sponsor this season, but is still involved as a partner of Aston Martin. "Lawrence Stroll understands that my heart bleeds", Weissenbacher said. However, according to him it is also a bad decision to say goodbye to the pink cars.

"Business-wise it was wrong," explains Weissenbacher. "Historically, the British racing green is certainly understandable to many, but not to me. The Aston Martin doesn't stand out on TV. Moreover, if the Aston Martin was pink, title sponsor Cognizant would also be happier because the recognition value would be much higher. The pink colour has not only become our trademark, but has also acquired a certain elegance."

Highs and lows

BWT was involved with Racing Point as title sponsor in 2019 and 2020. Two years with highs and lows. "The best moment was the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix with Sergio Perez's victory. Also because I promised Sergio at breakfast in the hotel on race day [if he] would win that day. And he did win!"

The low point came with the move from Racing Point to Aston Martin. "The biggest disappointment? That I have not been able to convince Lawrence Stroll to make the Aston Martin pink so far. Not out of selfishness but out of pure rationality, because a pink car just stands out more and has a much greater advertising effect."
