Perez rests for Silverstone after very bad Austrian GP

The Red Bull driver admits he has taken a rest since his incident-marred Austrian Grand Prix and wants to bounce back strongly at Silverstone.

Sergio Perez is eager to have a trouble-free weekend at the British Grand Prix after a race full of incidents during the Austrian GP. Perez was on the wrong end of a wheel to wheel moment with Lando Norris when he was pushed wide. This put the Mexican down the order and into another hard-fought battle with Charles Leclerc. Twice, Perez was deemed to have forced Leclerc off the track so the stewards awarded the Red Bull driver two five-second time penalties. “With Lando I saw the gap, I went for it, it didn’t work out the way I hoped it would," Perez told RacingNews365.com and other select members of the press. “But I had to go for it, he would have messed up my race. “In hindsight if I had waited more probably I could have got him later and so on, so the result would have been a lot better. It's always easy to know after a race. “With Charles it was a bit too close. I regret the first one, the first incident with him into Turn 4 because we were just too hot with everything, brakes, tyres. I should have avoided touching with him on that first one. So that one was probably fair to get the penalty. “But the second one there was not much I could do because I’m pushing and I lost the car in the middle of the corner and eventually the run-off finishes there. So it was a very bad race from my side.” Perez has put his dramatic race behind him to fully focus on how he can have a positive event at the British GP. Due to contracting COVID-19 last year, Perez has not raced at Silverstone since 2019. “I have reset from it, taken the positives which was the pace in qualifying and also the pace in the race in free air and so on,” said Perez. “I just hope this weekend we can have a much better one.”
