Horner annoyed: Wolff lobbying the stewards was unacceptable

The Red Bull team principal is deeply annoyed with Toto Wolff for going up to the stewards' room following the collision between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen at Silverstone.

Christian Horner was left very frustrated with Toto Wolff because the Mercedes team principal visited the stewards during the British Grand Prix. During the red flag, Wolff went to see the stewards after Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen made contact which resulted in the Red Bull driver going to hospital due to the severity of his crash. After Formula 1 race director Michael Masi told Wolff he does not check his emails during the race, Wolff decided to see the stewards himself. "I saw Toto who was lobbying the stewards, which I heard he was going to do," Horner told RacingNews365.com and other members of the press. "So I went to make sure that our view was represented because I don't think it's right, that team principals should be able to go and lobby the stewards. "They should be locked away so that they're not influenced. For me that was unacceptable that he had gone out there to lobby the stewards. "So I wanted to make sure that there was a balanced opinion given, rather than trying to influence pressure on the stewards to make a menial sentence." Horner was then told that Masi said Wolff should see the stewards himself if he wanted to make a point. Nevertheless, Horner thinks Wolff's actions were not on and he "made his opinion very clear" to the Mercedes boss when they exchanged words. "I don't think that stewards should be interfered with," added Horner. "They need to be in there clear-headed to be able to make those decisions. "I went to see the stewards because I head that Toto was up there presenting a case and you want it to be fair and balanced because I don't think anybody should be allowed to see the stewards during the course of a Grand Prix."
