Proudly the new Formula 1 car for 2022 was presented last weekend. Of course not by the teams themselves, but a demo model. Still, not everyone is happy with the new rules. Mattia Binotto doubts whether overtaking will improve.

The new Formula 1 cars for 2022 really only have one goal: Provide more action. With the current F1 cars, it is almost impossible to overtake another car, unless you are much faster. The dirty air behind another car makes it difficult to stay close to them.

Overtaking in F1

Led by Ross Brawn, F1 has now introduced a new set of regulations that should enhance racing. However, Binotto is not yet totally sold on it. ''I don't know. It's definitely in the philosophy and the objectives of those who came up with these rules,'' said a doubtful Binotto to Motorsport.com.

''There needs to be more close racing with less difference between the cars. But to start with you need a faster car to overtake. So it's not really clear how much easier it will be to overtake. If I look at the data of our car in the wind tunnel, I can't really say that overtaking will become easier,'' concludes the Ferrari team boss.
