Red Bull have lodged a petition to request a right of review over the penalty that was given to Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton at the British Grand Prix, following a crash that took Max Verstappen out of the race and requiring precautionary checks in hospital. Hamilton was given a ten second time penalty for being found by stewards at Silverstone to be predominantly at fault for the two drivers clashing at Copse corner. The crash was hugely costly for Red Bull, especially given that they may yet require another power unit later this season which would trigger a grid penalty. "In accordance with Art. 14 of the International Sporting Code, and following the petition for review by Red Bull Racing Honda, lodged on the 23 July 2021," said the summons document from the stewards, "the Team Manager and such witnesses as the Competitor may request, up to three attendees in total including the Team Manager, are required to appear via video conference at 16:00hrs CEST on Thursday, 29 July 2021." Red Bull had until this coming Saturday, July 31, to lodge such a request with the stewards. Representatives from both Red Bull and Mercedes have been summoned to state their case. For the petition to be successful and trigger a full review, Red Bull must present a significant and relevant new element which wasn't available for consideration by the stewards at the time of the decision, with the stewards then accepting this new element as relevant to the investigation.
