Aston Martin are still weighing up whether or not to go ahead with lodging a formal appeal against Sebastian Vettel's disqualification from the Hungarian Grand Prix. The German driver finished second in the race, having kept up the pressure on race winner Esteban Ocon throughout, but was disqualified afterwards. Race scrutineers weren't able to extract the required litre of fuel from Vettel's car, with the technical regulations stipulating that cars must contain this amount after the race in order to provide a sample. With Vettel's car only containing 300 millilitres, this was a clear cut case of failing to meet the requirements of the rulebook. However, the team maintain that there is sufficient fuel in the car and lodged an intention to appeal with the FIA on Sunday evening. They have until Thursday evening to decide whether or not to lodge a formal appeal, while the car has been impounded by the FIA in the meantime. “Since we had reason to believe that there was more than 1.0 litre of fuel in Sebastian Vettel’s car after the Hungarian Grand Prix," a team spokesperson told RacingNews365 , "we decided to reserve our right to appeal, which decision was communicated publicly by the FIA late the same Sunday night, in accordance with their standard procedures. "We are now analysing data in order to decide whether to appeal or not, using the 96-hour ‘window’ that the FIA allocates for such deliberations.”
