Last weekend, the racing world was shocked by a major crash at Spa-Francorchamps. In the 24 hour GT3 race, Williams reserve driver Jack Aitken lost control of his car at Eau Rouge. He first hit the wall on the inside and then shot back onto the track. He was hit by several cars until he came to a stop next to the track.

Aitken himself came off without major injuries, but after the tragic accident with Anthoine Hubert in 2019, it is the second major crash in a short time on the same stretch of the Belgian circuit. Back then, Juan Manuel Correa was also involved in the accident, and the young driver himself entered a long rehabilitation period. Now he is back in Formula 3 and will be racing at Spa next month.

Correa wants FIA to take action

Correa himself was shocked by the crash and has once again urged the FIA to take action, he reveals in a official statement. "Since my accident I have expressed my concerns several times to the FIA and the organisation about the track and safety for the drivers. I have offered to provide information from my own experiences. I have been looking for answers about what happened."

"I also wonder why it happened and what steps the FIA and other shareholders have taken to improve safety to prevent another driver from suffering serious injuries in similar circumstances." Correa indicated that he is already in talks though. "I am confident that the talks are going to have a good conclusion", the F3 driver concluded.
