Now that Valtteri Bottas ' move to Alfa Romeo is a certainty the question remains which driver will be the Finn's teammate from 2022 onwards. According to renowned sports outlet Auto, Motor und Sport that decision has not yet been made and there are currently four or five names on the shortlist, including that of Dutchman Nyck de Vries.

"“It is not yet clear who Bottas' new team-mate will be at Alfa Romeo. The team leaders would like to sign the former Red Bull driver Alex Albon. But the Thai leans more towards Williams," begins AMuS. "Another alternative is Formula E champion Nyck de Vries, who contacted Vasseur several times in Zandvoort."

According to the outlet, Ferrari is lobbying for Giovinazzi to stay with the team. The Italian also seems to be aware of the seriousness, considering he put in an impressive performance in the qualifying battle at Zandvoort. "Nico Hulkenberg's name has also been mentioned again and again in connection with Alfa Romeo in recent months," AMuS continued.

Young talent?

The final name is that of Frenchman Théo Pourchaire. The junior driver recently completed an F1 test in the Alfa Romeo. However, AMuS believes it is too early for Pourchaire to be promoted, and so argues Vasseur will be keeping him in mind for 2023, given the second driver alongside Bottas will most likely be offered a one-year deal.
