Williams team boss refutes: "I wasn't in quarantine"

Jost Capito missed the Dutch Grand Prix after a positive coronavirus test from Kimi Raikkonen. The German Williams team boss had dinner with the 41-year old Alfa Romeo driver at the beginning of the weekend. He took the precaution and decided to leave the circuit.

"We had been saying for years we really have to meet for dinner. It finally worked out. We adhered to social distancing, even at the table," Capito told Sky's German branch. The two have maintained a good relationship for over twenty years. Capito brought Raikkonen to Formula 1 in 2001.

Capito not in quarantine

Although no one required him to go into isolation immediately, Capito didn't want to take any chances. “I was not in quarantine, as has often been said, and did not have to isolate myself. But to keep any risk away from the team, I said ‘I’m going home’. I followed the race from my office, where I also have complete access to radio contact and all data. That works just as well as at the race track."

Capito and Williams are in a nice flow. Nicholas Latifi and George Russell scored the first points of the season in Hungary, and the same Russell was able to score a second place on the wet track of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium after the summer break. Nicholas Latifi also finished in the top-ten there. Points were also scored at Monza.
