The FIA is trying all kinds of ways to make Formula 1 more exciting. This season the sprint race has been a reasonable success, although there are some criticisms about the concept. It is said that behind the scenes there is an idea to introduce the so called reversed grid, but Alain Prost is not in favour of that.

With the reversed grid, Formula 1 looks at the standings in the world championship and the drivers start the sprint race in reverse order. It means that Max Verstappen has to start last in the current standings, while Nikita Mazepin starts at the front. The advisor of Alpine and former world champion doesn't think this is a good idea at all, he tells in his podcast Prost in the Paddock.

"Formula 1 has to keep a certain level of tradition in terms of technology," Prost argues. "However, you have to understand that the best team should win because it is the best. That is the spirit and purpose of Formula 1. The reversed grid I hate."

Prost issues clear statement

Prost doesn't know if he would still get any pleasure out of the sport if Formula 1 opts for such a plan. "If they introduce the reversed grid in Formula 1, I think I will leave the sport. That's the worst thing you can do for the principle of Formula 1. I would rather have the dominance of one team because it has done the best job than reversed grid. I am open minded, but also traditional minded."
