Michael Masi has stressed that the FIA applies the same rules to every driver following comments made by Fernando Alonso suggesting that this isn't the case. Alonso recently explained that he made trips through the run-off area at the Russian Grand Prix to "confirm" his belief that Formula 1 has "different rules for different people" . The Spaniard also seemingly referenced the fact that Lando Norris escaped a penalty for crossing the white line on the pit lane entry in Sochi when he said: "Let's see the next one that crosses the white line on the pit entry, let's see which nationality he is and which penalty he will get." Whilst Masi says he "doesn't engage" with these kinds of comments, he has reiterated that the rules are applied equally to all drivers. "Every driver is entitled to their views and comments, either internally or to the media, and that's fine," Masi told select media, including RacingNews365.com . "The rules are applied equally for everyone. He's entitled to his view but we judge each and every incident looking at the actual incident and what occurs." Masi has also made it clear that Alonso's comments do not put any extra pressure on the stewards. "We are very fortunate that we have a very good group of stewards throughout the year and no, I can tell you that does not place any additional pressure whatsoever on them," the Australian explained. When asked about questions over the consistency of the stewards' decisions, Masi stressed again that each incident is assessed individually. "The stewards are an independent judiciary to review anything, and that's why they are independent, to review it on that basis," he said. "They do look at everything case-by-case. Yes, you can compare different types of incidents, but they are there to review each case, with all of the information and data that they have available, and then ultimately make their decision. "Each team's entitled to talk about consistency and so forth, but we have a sort of general row of parameters, [and] they're all well and truly aware of where those are. "If there are things that aren't quite right, we discuss them openly, and if we need to tweak them, we tweak them."
