The second W Series season concluded last weekend with a double header in Austin. Here Jamie Chadwick, Extreme E driver and development driver at Williams, became champion for the second time after also winning the championship in 2019. Beitske Visser finished eighth, but is sure of a spot on the grid next year.

Perfect weekend for Chadwick

The 23-year-old Chadwick had a perfect weekend in Austin. She led from pole position to the finish and also set the fastest lap. Until the race, it was not sure if she would win the championship again, because she didn't start the weekend with a lead. Both Chadwick and Alice Powell had the same amount of points when the first free practice session started on Friday.

"That was a mega end to a mega year. It feels so good to finish it off like that – what a win! Thank you to W Series, Veloce, Formula 1 and everyone who’s supported me. It means so much to defend my title. The stakes were higher this weekend with the double-header, but to seal it by winning both races makes it so much sweeter and I’m delighted to come out on top," the Briton said in the official message from W Series.

She also mentioned the good relationship with Williams. "I’ve got an amazing relationship with the Williams F1 team who have helped me win this championship so I’m really grateful to them. I don’t know what’s next for me, but I’ll enjoy this moment and go from there."

Visser will be back next year

Dutch driver Beitske Visser is sure of a seat for next year, despite finishing eighth in the Championship. W Series had previously announced that drivers finishing in the top eight would be guaranteed a place on the grid. Visser managed to achieve this by finishing the race on Sunday in fifth place.
