According to Carlos Sainz an incident like the one between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen could easily have been prevented by a gravel trap. The Spaniard is a strong advocate of more gravel traps but is not getting listened to.

During the Brazilian Grand Prix there was another incident between Hamilton and Verstappen. This time the two didn't hit each other, but they were close. They both ended up well off the track because the Dutchman couldn't make the turn. According to Sainz, there is an easy solution to this problem.

More gravel traps in F1

''Personally, I think the problem can be solved with a gravel trap at the exit of turn 4. Also at the start a few cars, including us, went too wide there. If there had been a gravel trap, we would never have driven there. And if you put a gravel trap there, it wouldn't have been a problem for the stewards either. Then we would never have braked so late in Turn 4," said the Spaniard at Motorsport.com.

The Ferrari driver has a good point here. On tracks like Zandvoort, Spa-Francorchamps or Barcelona you won't see these kinds of manoeuvres very often. Then there is a gravel trap and drivers can't push the limits like they do with run-off areas. It remains to be seen if the FIA will follow suit.
