For the time being, Mercedes is unable to get involved in the battle for the championship in Formula 1 for the first time since the introduction of the hybrid era. After six races, the winner of all the constructors' titles in the past eight years is already 75 points behind Red Bull Racing. Still, George Russell thinks the team can soon compete for victories.

Russell expects GP wins soon

After a disappointing start to the season, Mercedes was in a much better position in Spain than in the previous races. Russell finished third in the race and Lewis Hamilton finished fifth after a great overtaking race. So the updates brought by the team do seem to be paying off. Also, the well-known porpoising - the bouncing of the car - seemed to have been remedied in Spain.

Russell grabbed his second podium of the season in Spain and has finished in the top five in every race so far. In fact, the Briton is the only driver on the grid to finish in the points every race so far. The brand new Mercedes driver is therefore fourth in the championship. "I think it will take another three or four races before we are really on the same level as Red Bull and Ferrari, but we are definitely in a better position," Russell is quoted by F1i.com.

Mercedes is the best in the business

So the upgrades in Spain provided a big step forward for the team and Russell is confident that Mercedes can also close the rest of the gap to the other top teams. "I believe Mercedes are the best in the business and if anyone can solve these problems and bring the performance back, it's us as a team."
