Wolff agrees with FIA: 'In Baku, it was definitely too dangerous'

The FIA chose to intervene this week to drastically reduce the problems with porpoising. The organization decided to impose a set of guidelines on Formula 1 teams so that they have the tools to reach a solution. Toto Wolff tells Sky Sports that he thinks it's a good thing.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell complained heavily after the race weekend in Azerbaijan about the porpoising they had to deal with in their cars. Other drivers also admitted that it caused physical discomfort, which is why Wolff finds it completely understandable that the FIA is taking action.

"In Baku, it was definitely too dangerous to run those cars," the Mercedes team boss judged in conversation with the English medium. "Every single one suffered, and you could see the bottoming on the straights were quite dangerous and we saw that yesterday (Friday) too."

Wolff hopes for wet qualifying

This weekend, Mercedes hopes to get a nice result in Canada. Whereas these were variable during the first two free practice sessions on Friday, Russell finished ahead of Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz in the third free practice session.

This was largely due to the fact that Red Bull Racing and Ferrari remained in the pit lane for a long time. Nevertheless, it also gives confidence to Mercedes. "Yeah, it does! We were looking a bit more competitive this session on the extreme wets. So, rather wet than dry," said Wolff.
