Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto saw a very tense ending to the Canadian Grand Prix where his driver Carlos Sainz hunted down Max Verstappen. In the end, Sainz never managed to make an overtake and therefore the Italian team had to settle for P2.

Change of drivers

For much of the season, Max Verstappen has been going toe-to-toe with Charles Leclerc. But with the man from Monaco getting an engine penalty and therefore starting from the back of the grid, Carlos Sainz took the lead at Ferrari. The team boss is confident Leclerc would've been close as well.

"Charles as well could have done it. I think today we had good pace in the race. We were fighting and I think when you stay behind and so close it shows that you have a good pace. I think he [Carlos] had a good race and a strong pace today. He did really well and is getting confidence with the car. Improving... so it's only a matter of time, but he will get there very soon," Binotto told Sky Sports as Sainz's search for his first win rolls on. Only Sergio Perez has more Grands Prix before his first win.

Red Bull remain on top in both World Championships as the F1 circus heads towards Silverstone for the British Grand Prix. Binotto knows what it takes if Ferrari are going to gain some ground.

"The atmosphere was very tense at the end with the safety car and finished second. Again it shows that to win you need the perfect weekend because the fight is very tight," he added.
