The pressure is on for Charles Leclerc this weekend. The disappointing results of the past few weekends have seen Leclerc fall behind leader Max Verstappen, meaning he cannot afford to retire. Despite a tough first day at Silverstone, the Monegasque is positive, he told Sky Sports.

Ferrari hoped to get Leclerc off to a good start, but heavy rain in the first session meant the driver could only complete seven laps. He recorded a fifth time. The Italians could not compare this time with that of Red Bull Racing however, as that team decided to stay indoors for the entire session.

Leclerc feels positive after first day of racing

A few hours later, the Formula 1 teams had a big challenge ahead of them. Leclerc finished fifth in the second practice session, just ahead of Carlos Sainz and Verstappen. He had a messy day but remains positive about his chances in Britain.

"We didn’t run much in FP1 today, but we did a few laps in wet conditions to have some data should there be a wet qualifying tomorrow," said Leclerc, who was more satisfied with the second session. "I could tell that our performance felt good in the car. I am confident that we will be competitive and it will be a matter of putting everything together."
