Horner responds as Verstappen is booed by British GP crowd

Max Verstappen was booed by some members of the Silverstone crowd, and Christian Horner has responded.

Christian Horner has responded to boos aimed at Red Bull driver Max Verstappen by some members of the British Grand Prix crowd. It comes after the Dutchman beat Hamilton to the 2021 title in controversial circumstances, with some fans seemingly still angry about how events unfolded. Former Race Director Michael Masi has since been sacked with "human error" blamed – by the FIA – for the decisions he has been deemed to have gotten wrong that day. "Lewis is going to have huge support here," responded Horner, speaking to Sky Sports F1 at Silverstone when asked about the scattered boos from the crowd. "Next weekend, there's gonna be another home race for us in Austria. I'm sure the team is going to have huge support with another 30,000 Dutch fans there." He added: "This is sport, isn't it? That is competition."

Horner: Red Bull are fully behind Hamilton

The crowd reaction also comes following a week that has seen Nelson Piquet, father to Verstappen's partner Kelly, at the centre of controversy. Two separate videos have emerged of the three-time World Champion using a racial slur to refer to Hamilton, with the most recent footage to surface also including a homophobic remark. Horner continued: "Max is absolutely clear that he's fully supportive of Lewis – and not just of Lewis, he's against any form of racism or discrimination in the sport. "Red Bull are fully behind Lewis and we're fully signed up to the Hamilton Commission. We felt that actions sometimes talk louder than words."
