Sergio Perez is not entirely satisfied with his own performance at Silverstone this Saturday. Where Max Verstappen fought for pole position (and just missed it), the Mexican himself did not come close to the fastest time. He eventually lost seven-tenths to Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari, but he has an explanation for that.

"In these changeable conditions, today was a good result for us. I obviously wanted more and I am not fully satisfied but we can fight from there and I look forward," Perez told his employer's press release after finishing fourth in qualifying for the British Grand Prix.

That the gap to the front was a little bigger than usual, according to the 32-year-old driver, was due to traffic. "It wasn’t ideal but on the other hand I am not too disappointed because towards the end of Q3 I had Stroll right ahead of me, so my last two laps were not ideal and maybe there was a bit more in it without that hold up." That Perez was actually bothered by Stroll's Aston Martin seems unlikely, as the Canadian driver had already dropped out in Q1. It is not known which driver he was talking about.

Perez wants to make up places

From the second row of the grid, much is still possible, although a victory will be very difficult with his teammate Max Verstappen and both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc ahead of him. "It will be important to stay in the mix and have a strong pace in the race tomorrow, then things can look very different. We have made good progress so I will be confident hopefully we are able to give a hard time to the Ferraris, it is going to be tough but we will fight hard," Perez concluded.
