Toto Wolff is convinced that the new regulations will only really bear fruit next year. Mercedes had a start to the season that was mainly characterised by porpoising. However, the German stable has recovered well in recent races and the Austrian believes that his team with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will certainly be back in the running for victories in 2023.

Only the drivers of Red Bull Racing and Ferrari have so far climbed to the top of the podium. Their dominance is so great that when either team or their drivers have failed, the Mercedes have taken the podium, much to everyone's surprise.

Wolff believes that in the future the number of real podium contenders will increase."It's too early to judge. I think the budget cap will narrow the group. In two years we will have five teams that are in a position to win and later we will have three more," told the Mercedes-teamboss Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Austrian thinks McLaren, among others, will have caught up by 2024 because of the budget ceiling that prevents you from acting quickly. Everything you spend on upgrading the car one season, or making mistakes, you don't have to use to develop the new car.
