The new engine regulations for the 2026 season have been approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council. This is announced by the organisation on the official website. It concerns technical, sporting and financial regulations.

According to the FIA, the regulations once again demonstrate that it continues to look for positive changes. "The FIA continues to push forward on innovation and sustainability – across our entire motor sport portfolio," stated President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. "The 2026 Formula 1 Power Unit Regulations are the most high-profile example of that mission."

"The introduction of advanced PU technology along with synthetic sustainable fuels aligns with our objective of delivering benefits for road car users and meeting our objective of net zero carbon by 2030. Formula 1 is currently enjoying immense growth and we are confident these Regulations will build on the excitement our 2022 changes have produced."

FIA focuses on four goals

According to the organisation, the new regulations bring four important goals. Firstly, for the FIA it is important to keep spectacle on the track, so the power sources will deliver comparable performance to the current engines. In addition, the use of electric power will increase to fifty per cent, while for renewable fuel this will be as much as one hundred per cent.

Financial sustainability and attractiveness for engine suppliers are also high on the FIA's list. With these four elements, the organisation hopes to take a new step in the further growth of the motorsport class.
