Perez explains concerning radio comments after Safety Car restart

Sergio Perez was heard reporting driveability problems following the second Safety Car restart of the Singapore Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver has since offered an explanation of what happened.

Sergio Perez has explained his radio comments about driveability issues during the Singapore Grand Prix. The Mexican led much of the race after overtaking pole-sitter Charles Leclerc at the start, yet voiced concerns about the potential problem following the second Safety Car restart. Perez was still able to go on to win the race, but has since given an explanation of what the situation was. "When you’ve just lost all your temperature behind the Safety Car, and you're going with a slick tyre through a wet patch, it's really difficult," Perez told media, including RacingNews365.com . "You are just a passenger, and people really don't understand how hard it was for us out there today in those conditions."

Perez admits there are "things to understand" for Red Bull

While the issue did not prevent Perez from going on to clinch his fourth win in Formula 1, he feels that it is still something for Red Bull to look into. "We did struggle a bit with driveability, so it's something we have to work on," Perez explained. "There were a few occasions where the engine was doing something we were not expecting. So yeah, a few things to understand from there."

Perez reflects on "best drive" in F1

Perez feels that his victory at the Singapore Grand Prix was his best drive in F1, and he admits that managing the restarts in mixed conditions was one of the aspects that he felt proud of. "I think [I said it was my best drive because of] how intense it was," Perez said. "To keep Charles behind, especially after the restart, when the warm-up was super hard and we were going basically… half the track was on the dry side but the other half was good enough for Inter[mediates] – and we were on the slick. "So not to make a mistake, and control Charles, who was really strong in the early phases. "But then, I think the pace I had in the last few laps was really strong because to basically be able to have that was really, really strong."
